SHERATON MUSTIKA YOGYAKARTA RESORT&SPA REVIEW

where to stay Yogyakarta Jogja
()

During our travels in fascinating Java, we had the pleasure to stay for three nights at wonderful Sheraton Mustika Resort & Spa in Yogyakarta. Coming from a long train trip from Jakarta, we were excited to have our first experience with the famous chain. Our expectations were already pretty high, but it all went even beyond them!

SHERATON MUSTIKA YOGYAKARTA RESORT & SPA

Yogyakarta, also known as Jogja, is a bustling city in the centre of Java. It is the island’s cultural heart, surrounded by some of the most beautiful temples in whole Indonesia and by a lush green nature, including jungle scenery and volcanoes. Sheraton Mustika Yogyakarta connects on every aspect with the external environment: located at the end of a long entry boulevard and immersed in a spectacular set up, it is at the same time not far from the city’s attractions and services, and also situated in a peaceful area.

RECEPTION

From the moment we walk in, we are in total admiration of the ambience: huge entry halls, high ceilings, elegant chandeliers and so many comfy sofas. Plus, most importantly, the staff immediately makes us feel at home, with big smiles and welcome drinks. While escorting us to our room, the receptionist introduces us to the hotel’s facilities and services, explaining that our room is at floor 1, with the reception being at floor 7. We were so enchanted by the beauty around us that we didn’t realize at first the peculiar architecture of the resort: the boulevard leading to the hotel is slightly uphill, with the entire structure resulting below the entrance point. Therefore the reception, breakfast bistrot&restaurant are located on the higher floor, while all the rooms are at floors 6 to 1, with the outdoor swimming pool area at the base too.

BEDROOM

Our room is at the lower ground, and its name already sounds magnificent: Lagoon Access Room. That means we have a lovely pool right in front of our window! After a long journey we were truly hesitant whether to plunge straight into the pool or let ourselves be cuddled by the soft bed pillows and linen. Eventually we split tasks, Edo going for the pool and Ambra for the bed! The room is very spacious, with elegant furniture and much storing space for clothes and personal effects.

The bathroom is large too, with a central big mirror above a decorated console displaying several complimentary products as shampoo and skin care, plus a wide luxury bathtub with shower.

POOLS & BAR AREA

As said before, not only did we have our charming lagoon out of our window, but a meandering outdoor pool too. Jungle themed as the immediate surrounding, the pool stretches for a few dozens meters, going from the water fountains to the bar lounge zone, with the chance to drink a fancy cocktail sitting right in the pool’s water. And if this weren’t enough, there is also an indoor pool located within the Spa premises! So any time we craved for a fresh dip during our stay, we were truly spoilt for choice.

BREAKFAST & RESTAURANT

When staying at Sheraton Mustika Yogyakarta, be sure to have the breakfast option included in your reservation. The choice for the most important meal of the day is abundant and absolutely top notch. Anything you could desire in the morning, from continental breakfast to traditional Javanese: any style eggs cooked on the go by the chefs, soft pancakes with all the dipping sauces, fresh seasonal fruit and juices, local nasi goreng or mie goreng, plus a different specialty from the world every day. You will take advantage of this generous buffet at the Androwino Bistro, the elegant dining room with views on majestic Mount Merapi, open all day for lunch and dinner.

SPA

If all the previous facilities weren’t enough to award Sheraton Mustika Yogyakarta their well deserved 5 star status, Taman Sari Royal Heritage Spa is definitely the icing on the cake. As a matter of fact, not only it is appreciated by the hotel’s customers, but visitors come from outside on purpose to enjoy its services too. After a long day visiting Borobudur and Prambanan temples, a Balinese traditional massage was the best thing we could ever need. As any other time we would get back to the hotel or enter the breakfast area, the friendly staff welcomed us with great kindness, showing us around the magnificent Spa. As mentioned earlier, there’s also an indoor pool plus jacuzzi whirlpool situated within the Spa. We let ourselves be pampered for one of the most relaxing hour long massages we ever experienced.

During our three day stay we were pretty busy wandering around Jogja surroundings, but there’s plenty of other residential services that you can enjoy both day and night time such as tennis courts, gym&health club, PC facilities, the Ganesha Eks Sanskriti Indian restaurant together with the Suko Wine Lounge on 8th floor, and even a space to celebrate your wedding! Also, the airport transfer and a multiple daily shuttle to Yogyakarta city centre are complimentary and can be booked in advance.

A true gem in the heart of Java, Sheraton Mustika Yogyakarta has been the perfect base for us to visit the most cultural sights of the island and make our stay unforgettable. Not only did we love the peculiar architecture, our cozy room, the spectacular swimming pools and incredible Spa, but we believe what makes the difference here is the outstanding hospitality provided by the professional and genuine Javanese staff team.
